Remembering Ned

by Ginny Greninger, Volunteer

Our dearest friend and longtime NMHRS volunteer, Ned, was a house rabbit parent to many rabbits. He loved all bunnies – large, small, brown, white, sweet, and feisty. After he passed unexpectedly, NMHRS helped rehome 5 of his rabbits. Maggie (grey) and Archie (white) were adopted by Victoria and Kirstin, respectively.

To remember Ned and the great friend he was to all of us, I participated in the Santa Fe Animal Shelter’s campaign, “Driving Change through Art.”
Kirstin and Victoria sent me photos of Maggie and Archie that I submitted to the shelter to be painted by a local artist on a 4’ x 4’ mural for the 2022-23 campaign. The mural is one of twelve that line the driveway leading to the shelter.

The mural was painted by local artist James Trigg. He really captured Maggie’s and Archie’s spirits in his beautifully created painting. The murals will be on display for one year. Ned’s Maggie and Archie will be glimpsed by everyone visiting the shelter…and that is many, many folks. I am so pleased that James Trigg accepted the portrait assignment, and that the Shelter
has house rabbit portraits represented in this awesome mural project.

Maggie and Archie mural located closest to shelter along driveway.

We miss Ned every day and are so pleased to have this portrait to honor him.

We heart Ned!
