Adequan

If your rabbit is suffering from arthritis, we recommend asking your vet about Adequan. Adequan is an arthritis drug created for dogs, but members of the NMHRS Board of Directors have used it on their rabbits and the results have been phenomenal.

Adequan is administered by intramuscular injections. Your rabbit will need two injections a week for four weeks and then one dose every 4-8 weeks, depending on how your rabbit is doing. You will not notice much change in your rabbit’s pain levels until at least dose 6, so remember to be patient and follow through with the full regimen. If you are comfortable giving the shots yourself, we always recommend using insulin syringes because they are short enough to not risk hitting the sciatic nerve.
